From its original location on Freshwater Road, Magic Bean Toy Shoppe became a wondrous chest of unique and educational toys for children to explore. Over time, the Shoppe expanded to offer a collection of children’s clothing and themed theatrical birthday parties.
Shoppe owners, Roslyn and Gary, packed up their store on Freshwater road, and moved into a much larger space in Churchill Square in the beginning of 2015. There they opened Petite Posh - a luxurious spa experience for children and parents. They have also expanded into baby items such as cribs, strollers, car seats and more. Today, parents and children alike can shop for new toys or trendy clothing, and plan a birthday party or spa date from this location.
Roslyn was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she was one of eight children. She was pinned as a problem solver from a very young age, as demonstrated by her love of puzzles. Looking back on her childhood, Roslyn recalls a theatre show that she helped organize as a fundraiser for the Janeway Children’s Hospital as her fondest childhood memory.
Roslyn’s love of children and dedication to helping others lead her to a career in nursing. While working at the Janeway Children’s Hospital, she met the man who she would later marry, Gary, who was working as a lab technician at the time.
As one of three children, Gary grew up in the town of St. Paul’s, on the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. Life in rural Newfoundland forced Gary and his siblings to depend on their vivid imaginations for entertainment, which often lead to the invention of sports and games. While reminiscing on his childhood, many of his fondest memories occurred while playing handball, softball, and dodge ball.
Over the years Roslyn and Gary have built a legacy of six children, three grandchildren, and three business divisions. Today they happily live in St. John’s, Newfoundland where they enjoy spending time with their family and friends. Looking towards the future, the pair has exciting plans for their business, and show no signs of resting on their accomplishments just yet.
